Counting Down More than Just New Years

Can someone tell me why Dick Clark is still being show on national television? My God, I am embarrassed for him! Even Ryan Seacrest, who has to deal with Paula Abdul and Simon, even Ryan looks so uncomfortable beside him. Everyone used to joke about how Dick Clarke just never seemed to get older, and always looked the same. Now Dick Clark is just a joke. I have the utmost respect for what this man has accomplished in his career. No one can take that away from him. And let me tell ya'll something: this guy has got to have some kind of power even now, because I don't think there are more than 3 other people powerful enough in network television that can be in his condition, and still keep a show, even if it is on only once a year.

Pay tribute, keep his name in the title, but get him off the air. Please.

Pretty Boy beats De la Hoya

Did Oscar believe that Mayweather was going to do anything different than what he did on May 4th? Floyd is the most conceded person in whatever room he happens to be in, and that includes family reunions with his uncle and father. Floyd would only do what brought him to the dance, and that is to spend the 1st 3 rounds trying to demoralize his opponents by exposing their weaknesses through his simple jabs thrown at blinding speed. After round 3, Floyd then starts to put together combinations. By the later rounds, it is an all out clinic. Floyd used to have the power to knock out his lighter opponents, but that was simply not going to happen with a veteran with the skills of Oscar.

It became painfully obvious that by the 4th round, Oscar should have been trying to press Mayweather to the ropes at least 3 times a round, and just pound the body. De la Hoya may have thought that he was pressing the action, but if can honestly look at the tapes, he will see that Floyd's defense was just too much for Oscar. He hit more air than flesh, and Mayweather did just enough activity with precision to sway 2 out of 3 judges.

That being said, the fight just didn't live up to the hype. Oscar was never in danger of being knocked out because Mayweather simply does not have the power to take out top quality opponents at that weight class. Floyd fulfilled a dream in better De La Hoya and cementing his position as best pound for pound, but now he needs to drop at least 1 weight class if he wants to continue fighting. Floyd simply will not being able to last more than 3 fights at 154, and if he decides to "unretire" and fight a top ranked fighter again, he may blemish his record with a loss for the first time in his career.

Dana White versus Tito Ortiz

Here is a statement from Tito Ortiz following the airing of the "Bad Blood" show on Spike TV, that Dana White used to document his training and history with Tito as a promo for their upcoming exhibition bout.

"Dana White has once again taken the low road and decided to try to damage my reputation and credibility in a public forum. During an appearance on Spike TV on April 12th White accused me of failure to show up for a fight we had originally scheduled for March 24th. He did so at the end of the program and gave me no opportunity to respond or tell the real story, which is simply this: White was fully informed well in advance of March 24th that I would not fight without a contract, which White refused to sign.

Fighting is my livelihood and jeopardizing my body without a full understanding of conditions, doesn’t make any sense. No professional fighter will go into a risky match without a contract.

I’ve struggled to get respect and dignity for my profession and I do it in the way I lead my life as a fighter and as a human being. Dana’s attitude not only disrespects me, but all fighters. I am taking this stand just not for this one incident, but for all future champions.

I want to reiterate: I am ready to settle my differences with Dana White in any fighting forum we can agree on, but only if there is a signed contract that stipulates where the money is going, whether it is to charity or to the fighters doesn’t matter as much as having a definitive agreement.

Until Dana White is ready to fight me on a professional basis, I strongly urge him to keep his mouth shut."

I am a big fan of the Huntington Beach Bad Boy Ortiz and have great respect for what I have seen Dana White do with the UFC. While I am not an insider, I can see that Dana went out of his way to fully detail his side of the history and "bad blood" between himself and Tito. In response, Tito just comes up with garbage statements that barely speak to the clear points Dana brought up on the show.

1 - As per Dana, it was Tito Ortiz that wanted the exhibition fight included as a part of his current contract.

2 - Dana had believed that this "sparring session" was going to just be done in the basement gym until Tito apparently starting shooting his mouth off.

Listen, there were clearly some holes in Dana White's version. This guy is putting together PPV's and house shows on a regular basis. He knows exactly what he is doing. Tito has never been a no-show at any other shows while under contract, including the 5 title defenses he had to do in a year, as per the "Bad Blood" documentary.

At the end of the day, you have to wonder what the purpose of "Bad Blood" really is. Does it portray a positive image of UFC or it's fighters? Does it make Dana White look like the type of business man that can take a struggling organization and turn it into a multi million dollar industry? This is about 2 shots of ego with a testosterone chaser more than anything else.

Much Love for George St-Pierre!

Saturday, April 7th, 2007 was a bad night for the city of Montreal. First the Canadians get knocked out of the Stanley Cup playoffs, then George St-Pierre gets knocked out by Matt Serra and loses his UFC championship belt.

I became a big fan of Matt Serra after watching him on Ultimate Fighter 4. Matt is a dangerous fighter not only because of his talent, but also because of his maturity and confidence. If George had to pick someone that would take his title, then I am sure that Matt Serra would have been near the top of a very short list. Of course, GSP would never have made that list, even with a gun put to his head.

I can only hope that Dana White will set up a rematch between Matt (Serra) and George, but, from the camera shot of Matt Hughes jumping up and saying that he was back after the GSP loss, makes me think otherwise. If Dana holds true to form, he should be setting up a Hughes versus St-Pierre rubber match with the winner getting a shot at the title. He would, if Diego Sanchez put in an impressive performance so that he could get become Serra's first title defense. However neither Diego Sanchez, nor Josh Koscheck are deserving of a shot given the lackluster performance in the Koscheck win. Matt Hughes is almost assured of receiving a call from the UFC President informing him that he will be headlining UFC 72.

While Montrealer's will continue to show much love and support to their favorite son in George St-Pierre, I think we can no longer expect the UFC do the same. I expect Dana White to be asking George "Rush" St-Pierre not to rush back to a title shot, but instead take a slow road to the belt by going through either Diego Sanchez or Josh Koscheck. As an added insult, he will most likely ask GSP to have that match as an undercard of that same UFC 72 PPV.

Regardless of what the future holds, you can bet that the smoldering fire that is now burning in GSP will be unleashed at his next opponent, no matter when, no matter where. You can also bet that the sports bars of Montreal will jammed packed with GSP supporters.

At 35, he may be the oldest tester in the business (he's called "Gray Bush" by his co-workers), but he's also the best. But when his roommate fails to pay the rent for 6 months, Alex unfortunately finds himself on the street. His last resort is to move in with three hot babes - that's what he tells his friends. In actuality, he finds himself living with his sweet and loving 80-year-old grandma Lilly (Doris Roberts) along with her two roommates: the "been there, done that repeatedly" octogenarian Grace (Shirley Jones) and the not-quite-all-there, overly medicated Bea (Shirley Knight). Lilly dotes on Alex and keeps him housed and fed - in exchange for a few simple chores around the place. As Alex tries to bag his new hot boss while continuing to work in secret developing his own game, Demonik, jealous nerdboy and creator of Eternal Death Slayer, JP (Joel Moore), swipes Alex's Demonik and tries to pass it off as his own. Soon it becomes a battle of Gen-Xers versus gin players when the boss produces a secret weapon: Alex' grandma (and now master gamer) Lilly.

   TEN Review

This is a guy's movie, if "guy" is defined as a teenage minded, pot smoking, not happy with their own life male. In other words, there is a large market for this market, so don't let the fact that it was not a box office smash stop you from getting this movie. This movie is a must have for anyone that likes to have friends over to just chill out and watch something funny.

Climate Change's 1st Victim

Every day we are being bombarded with what is going on in the "war on terror", yet the real terrorists continue to operate freely in North America. Corporations in the United States have been putting the majority of it's citizens in a state of constant fear through setting unrealistic goals on profitability, forcing employees to work 2 or 3 times harder, and rewarding them by shutting down departments and shipping jobs overseas.

A lot of these same companies are contributing to the pollution that has changed our climate to unpredictable patterns with sometimes violent consequences. And now, finally, we begin to see the first casualties from the effects of their cold hearted practices. The inhabits of Carteret Islands in the South Pacific are losing their homes to rising sea levels, and are losing their lives to the diseases that are being brought on from the change in conditions.

The world has yet to take this situation seriously. We are experiencing unnatural conditions across the planet, but people are locked into their shell, struggling to make ends meet, and continue to be purposely oblivious to the pending doom around them. In Canada, there are a record number of people with sinus infections this year, and people are not recovering in 24 or 48 hours. It is taking weeks for people to get healthy again, in part because most of them are not able to take the time off to rest. Recently in Australia, tennis players were forced to continue playing even though the temperature had reached 50 degrees Celsius on the court.

We are heading very quickly towards disaster, and no one seems willing to do anything until they look up and see the tidal wave of catastrophic disasters take everything away from them. Did the Americans even learn from New Orleans? No! Instead of focusing on ensuring that they have the necessary resources to better respond when (not if) a similar situation happens again, they hire illegal immigrant workers to restore the city, and drive up the rent so that only the wealthy can return and rebuild their lives as it once was, leaving the rest to continue to struggle to survive through another kind of horror.

Canadians used as Piniatas in Mexico

Canadians had better take heed from the latest murder of a 19 year old citizen while vacationing in Mexico. We keep hearing about how corrupt Mexico is, but and this is the 2nd time (and 3rd death) within a 12 month period that Canadians have been killed because of it. Mexican police tried to say that Adam Deprisco was killed by a hit and run when in reality he was attacked by locals after being set up by one of their girlfriends.

This is the closest that Canada has come to an act of terrorism than anything Canadians are dying for in Afghanistan. Let's see if Warlord Harper is willing to get tough with a country without the blessing of his pimp, President Bush.
